Privacy and security
Markdown Optimizer is built to need as little of your data as possible. It requests no customer scope, and the one optional order permission is reduced to a count of units per variant before anything reaches the app.
AI suggests. Deterministic maths decides.
The ladder is your schedule and involves no AI. Where suggestions are switched on, AI only finds places a ladder could work harder, and deterministic, quantitative mathematics verifies each candidate across the shop before you see it.
- AI only finds the possibilities. AI never sets a price
- Deterministic, quantitative mathematics checks every step against your margin floor
- Nothing runs until you have previewed a ladder and started it
What we collect
Markdown Optimizer requires five read scopes and one write scope: product, publication, inventory, location and theme reads, and product writes. It requests no customer scope.
Order access is optional. It is used only where your store uses suggestions, and your ladder works without it. If you grant it, the Sparande platform counts how many units of each product variant sold on each day of the last 30 days, and only that total per variant reaches the app: variant, date and quantity, nothing else. We therefore hold no customer names, emails, phone numbers, addresses or order histories, because none of them is ever sent to the app. You can remove order access at any time from your Shopify admin.
What we store for your store: your store domain, your installation and plan status, the markdown ladders you author and every earlier version of them, which products have reached which step, units sold per variant over the last 30 days if you granted order access, and a record of who in your team changed what.
How we use it
- To work out which products are due a markdown, and to apply it.
- To show you what was applied, and what was refused and why.
- To confirm your store's plan with Shopify.
- To answer support questions you raise with us.
We do not sell data, and we do not use your catalogue to train models that serve other merchants.
How your store's access is held
Markdown Optimizer issues no Shopify write of its own. The long-lived Shopify access credential for your store is handed at install to the Sparande platform, which holds it and performs every price change; the app never receives it back. That is why the app requests the product write scope: the platform changes prices under this app's access.
- Every price change is checked against the live price before it is written, and read back afterwards.
- Access inside the app is per person and per permission, and every change is recorded with who made it.
- On Enterprise, Microsoft Entra ID can decide who may use the app and with which role, and SCIM provisioning revokes a person's access on their next request after a deactivation is received.
How long we keep it
Until you uninstall. Uninstalling removes your store record, and your ladders, product enrolments, team records and audit trail are deleted with it. Before uninstalling, use Remove active markdown changes if you want original prices restored.
Your rights and GDPR requests
You can ask us what we hold, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks are implemented: a data request or redaction for a customer returns that we hold nothing, which is accurate for the reason given above.
